The Call We Can’t Ignore
Some call it purpose. Some say it’s a dream. Some describe it as an inspiring vision of who they could become and the life they could create.
No matter what words we use to describe it, that feeling of yearning for a richer, fuller life is the same.
And so is the knowing that we can’t ignore the call.
We’ll never be content to settle for less than what we know we’re truly capable of becoming.
From Pain to Purpose
“I can’t do this for the rest of my life!” I proclaimed to myself.
It was the spring of 2007, a year after graduation and three months after taking a job as an intern architect at an 8-person firm in downtown Lawrence, Kansas.
There I sat at my large, frosted-glass-topped desk facing the tall, distressed-red-brick side wall of this open-plan office reflecting on my career journey so far.
In school, I’d always just assumed that I’d become an architect. But now, that thought felt less like comforting certainty and more like a prison sentence.
Like many breakthrough moments, my new career direction was inspired by pain and the clear knowing that something must change.
The beautiful thing about finally admitting to yourself that you simply “can’t take it anymore” is that this realization creates a clear space for a new and better path to begin to appear.
Fast forward one year later, and there I was sitting cross legged on the oak bedroom floor of my new home in Portland, Oregon about to hit publish on a brand new website.
Launching my psychic reading business filled my mind with exciting possibilities. The fun of getting to do my own thing. The freedom to create my own schedule, make my own decisions, be my own boss. The joy of getting to do work that I’m truly passionate about and interested in.
The me who clicked “publish” on that website was nearly unrecognizable from the me of one year earlier.
I felt energized, excited, and alive. It was like I’d moved from black and white into color.
Of course, the path forward from that day in July 2008 hasn’t been without its share of challenges and heartache.
Financial uncertainty. Offers that flopped. Doubting my direction. Comparing myself to others who seem more capable, gifted, and successful. Struggling to describe to “normal” people what I do. Family concern and the sadness of knowing that some of them will likely never understand or appreciate my journey.
But none of that compares to the joy of answering the call.
No painful challenge or looming difficulty can match the feeling of inner alignment, true purpose, and sense of destiny being fulfilled that you get from boldly following your true heart’s desires.
The Path With Heart
It’s a choice we can make at any moment.
Will we try to ignore the call to our greatness that will never go away?
Or, will we boldly go all-in and passionately follow our path with heart?
Here’s one thing I can say for sure…
At the end of my life, no matter what my successes or failures in the outer world may have been, I’ll be proud that I freaking went for it.
And I hope you do the same.
Love and Magic,
